Christians
Can't Dance!
The days are quickly counting up to that time of the year for the Prom. Is the decision you have made about going to the Prom the correct one? Are you sure? Have you considered what the Lord has revealed to us about the matter of dancing? The Prom is actually one of Satan's most powerful devices because of the fact that many of the dangers and problems with the Prom are not fully understood by many people (e.g., consider THIS ARTICLE). Sometimes even Christian parents, being interested in the social development of their children, have difficulty saying NO to their children who want to dance. However, please know that this is NOT because the Bible is silent about the matter.

Links on this page are to materials written by Christians who love young people and who want what is the very best for them. We believe that the ethical standard which the Lord has given us in the Bible is reliable and relevant to our needs today. We hope that you will consider carefully these articles which are actually studies of that standard which is revealed in the Bible. Maybe you will find one that will cause you to think about the seriousness of the decision to go to the Prom. Hopefully there might be one of these presentations that will cause you to reject the tremendous peer pressure which is placed upon you to go to the Prom.

Here are a few thoughts, from Christians in Marshall County, the design and intent of which is to help you, as a young person, to continue to let your light shine BRIGHTLY, just as Jesus teaches that you should--"14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)"

- Sermon on Dancing, by Jim Faughn (actually lives in McCracken County, but spends a lot of time in Marshall). Jim also submitted: "Selling the Prom Peddles Dangerous Messages," Prom night has become a big-bucks industry, and teenagers need to know how high the price can really be. YOU need to read this article from the Memphis Commercial Appeal!

Besides these Christians in Marshall County, other Christians have also written down some thoughts that place them in opposition to the practice of dancing. The only reason that their ideas are here and the only reason their ideas shine forth so BRIGHTLY is that their ideas come from the word of God...

SOME OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER...
Normally, the night of the Prom is one of the most dangerous of the year for teens because of the use of alcohol and other drugs before, during, and after the Prom. Please read the following article clipped from THE PADUCAH SUN and consider again how destructive drinking and driving is. Is this night of celebration really worth what it could cost? Ask Jason Watts.
Watts Tells of Painful Costs. Watching his friends die, days spent in jail are most painful results of a night's deadly mistakes.
How about our dress? What does the Bible teach about Christian young people and they way they dress? Please read this excellent biblical discussion written by Benjamin Richardson: "The Christian Young Person and Modesty."
An excellent article about the importance of who we select to date has been written by Paul D. Meacham, III. I hope you will take the time to read: "Why Date a Christian."
