WHY DO YOU WANT TO DANCE?

by Edd Sterchi

"DANCING IS FUN"

-- Dancing may well be fun, but a lot of sins are fun.

-- Heb. 11:25 - Moses resisted the pleasures of sin.

"THERE IS NO SEXUAL CONNOTATION WITH ME IN DANCING"

-- Then why don't boys dance with boys?

-- Dancing is lust oriented.

-- I Pet. 2:11 - We are to abstain from fleshly lusts.

"WELL, DANCING DOESN'T AFFECT ME THAT WAY--I AM ABLE TO HANDLE IT"

-- Rom. 14:15 - You may affect someone else "that way."

-- We are responsible for others.

-- Maybe we can handle it, but will our actions cause a weaker brother or sister to fall?

"BOYS WILL HAVE THOSE THOUGHTS ANYWAY"

-- Maybe so, but you don't throw matches at dynamite just because it will explode anyway.

"I WON'T FIT IN IF I DON'T GO -- EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING IT"

-- Matt. 7:13 - It is difficult to get to heaven, sacrifices must be made.

-- Ex. 23:2 - Don't follow a multitude to do evil.

-- A Christian must stand out from the crowd, not blend in.

"I'LL BE RIDICULED IF I DO NOT GO"

-- Matt. 5:12 - Yes, you probably will.

-- I Pet. 4:16 - We will suffer sometimes as a Christian.

"THERE WILL BE CHAPERONES THERE"

-- Then that makes it chaperoned sin.

-- Chaperones cannot control your thoughts.

"I'LL JUST GO AND WATCH"

-- If it's wrong to dance, why would it be OK to watch?

-- Matt. 5:28

"THE BIBLE DOESN'T SAY NOT TO DANCE"

-- Gal. 5:19-21 - In reality, it does.

"BECAUSE I WANT TO DISOBEY GOD"

-- That is the only reason to go to the dance.

DRL NOTE: Maybe we would not say in so many words that we want to disobey God and that is the reason we want to go to the Prom, however, if we have carefully examined all of the evidence and are still determined to go, what other valid conclusion is there to be drawn?

David,

I took a look at your page concerning dancing.  Very good.  I hope it
does some good.

I spoke at a youth rally a while back and I gave all of the
"arguments" that I knew of that kids give for going to dances.  Then I
refuted them.  Here is a brief synopsis of that outline.  Use it if
you can.

In Him,

Edd Sterchi
